    William Byron wins the great American race giving Hendrick Motorsports a record-tying 9th Daytona 500 victory

    Hendrick Motorsports Driver William Byron withstood a pair of late crash to win Monday’s delayed Daytona 500.

    A third, middle lane formed, with Harrison Burton charging to lead it. But John Hunter Nemechek’s No. 42 Toyota drifted into Burton, starting a chain reaction that collected seven cars, including former 500 champions Jimmie Johnson and Austin Dillon.

    Chase Elliott won the opening stage, while Ryan Blaney took the second after dipping low to pass teammate Austin Cindric in the closing moments.

    Byron victory in the Daytona 500, was a record-tying ninth Daytona 500 victory for his team Hendrick Motorsports.

    It’s the first Daytona 500 win for Byron.
