Kyle Larson was the favorite heading into Monday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Dover, sustained a blow to his chances of winning after a Stage 1 wreck initiated by Ross Chastain.
Chastain’s aggressive driving led to the No. 1 Chevy making contact with the No. 15 Rick Ware Racing Ford of Brennan Poole on the 81st of a scheduled 400 laps in the Würth 400 on Monday.
The wreck sent Poole’s Ford sliding into the path of HMS Larson’s No. 5 car alongside the outside retaining wall in Turns 1 and 2.
Tony Stewart puts Christopher Bell in an uncomfortable position regarding question with JGR policy
“What a _______ idiot.”- said an obviously frustrated Kyle Larson.
“That was a little too aggressive in my opinion.”- Rusty Wallace to Ross Chastain.
Kyle Larson managed to continue on with substantial right-front damage that dropped him to the end of the lead lap.
“Ross flat-out wrecked the lapper, right?” Larson asked his No. 5 crew on the radio. “Yes, for no reason,” was the team’s reply.
