Two drivers are set to miss s Sunday’s race at the Charlotte Roval with concussion-like symptoms and one with lower-leg injuries.
The Next Gen car has been under much scrutiny recently regarding safety concerns and this latest update won’t do it any good either as three drivers are set to miss the playoffs race at Charlotte Roval.
Chase Elliott blasts NASCAR for going ‘backward’ regarding drivers’ safety
Among the three, one of them is a long-time absentee Kurt Busch who has been sidelined since July 23 crash during qualifying at Pocono Raceway.
Alex Bowman missed the playoffs race at Talladega and was expected to return this weekend but will have to sit out this race too.
“With my health continuing to be my number one priority, I will not return to racing this weekend at the NASCAR Cup Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway,” Bowman said. “I am continuing to make strides in my recovery to make sure I can return to competition at 100%.”
Busch was in contention for the playoffs as he won at Kansas in May. Likewise, Bowman was still in the playoffs and NASCAR even issues a waiver for him to qualify for the next round had he raced and won at Charlotte. However, this will not be the case anymore.
Another driver to miss the race is Cody Ware as he suffered lower-leg injuries in a vicious wreck at Texas. While he was able to participate in the Talladega race, he won’t do so at the Charlotte Roval because of the braking requirements around the hybrid oval and road course track.
Bowman will be replaced by Xfinity Series driver Noah Gragson.
