Martin Truex Jr. confirmed to reporters last year that he will be returning to Joe Gibbs Racing for the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series season.
In June Truex Jr. said he would “probably” go through the same process about whether he’ll race in 2024.
Truex Jr. has revealed that, just as last season, he’ll be announcing his retirement plans in September.
Bubba Wallace feeling confident ahead of next season, promises ‘big things’
“It’s going to be like last year. I’ll let you know in September,” he told Fox Sports. It’s not even off the radar right now -— not even on the radar,”.
He also mentioned that, at the moment, he is focused merely on the 2023 season and the retirement plans are not on his radar for now.
The 2023 Cup Series season is set to be Truex’s 18th season as a full-time Cup driver and his fifth behind the wheel of the No. 19 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing.
Martin Truex Jr. excited for 2023
“I’m excited. I think it’s going to be a year we can make a lot happen,”. Said Truex Jr.
“How we look at ’22 was a lot of missed opportunities, and a lot of that was from mistakes or not consistently being good enough.
We had an opportunity to win a bunch of races, and we had some bad luck. We screwed up a lot on our own along the way too,” Truex Jr. added.
The 42-y-o acknowledges that it had taken him about six months just to decide on 2023.
“And I think it just felt like we were fighting uphill all the time. And that starts with understanding the cars better, showing up closer, and qualifying better and more consistent.
We don’t need huge changes.Said Truex Jr.We don’t need to rebuild. We just need to tweak some little things,”
