Joe Gibbs reveals JGR hates racing against Kyle Busch

Joe Gibbs Racing’s owner admitted to not liking the success Kyle Busch is having against his own teams.

Busch left JGR in an acrimonious fashion as the two parties failed to agree on an extension for their long-time driver. It was a bitter departure for one of JGR’s most successful drivers. After all, they won two Cup Series championships together.

In an ideal scenario, Busch would have probably retired at JGR but things weren’t meant to be and now he is racing for Richard Childress Racing.

And the decision was always going to bite back at JGR as Busch is still in top condition. He already has three Cup wins this season, the highest in the Series. His nine top-10 finish is also the highest so far, along with William Byron.

Seeing Busch still winning for another team hasn’t gone well with Gibbs as he said that his teams don’t like racing against him.

“It’s not fun. We don’t like that, okay?” Gibbs said. “Certainly we didn’t want that to happen. It did.”

“He’s a real talent. Got such respect for him. We don’t like racing against Kyle. I think he’s going to win a bunch. We know it. So we got to work our guts out to try and stay in front of him. I’m just thankful today that Martin was able to stay there [in front].”

Unfortunately for Gibbs, Busch seems like a driver proving a point this season.

But, overall, his teams are not doing badly at all. Martin Truex Jr. has 2 wins, after the latest win at Sonoma Raceway and Denny Hamlin and Christopher Bell have one win each.
