Seven-time NASCAR Cup champion Jimmie Johnson who is currently competing IndyCar full-time, recently he gave a clue towards possibly returning to NASCAR.
The 46-y-o was on SiriusXM to talk about the brand new Chicago Street Circuit with Mike Bagley and possible return to Cup Series.
Johnson ended his legendary NASCAR career after the 2020 season. However, the seven-time Cup Series champion returned to race for IndyCar Series.
Former driver openly calls out NASCAR “To Do Better” after Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch DQ’s
he said, “You know I wouldn’t rule it out. I don’t have anything in the works but I’m certainly open to any ideas and at this point of the season you know everybody is kind of jocking for positions, working on sponsorship details.”
“I’m not sure what I have in store for next year. Could be more IndyCar. It could be a little bit of NASCAR. I’m certainly open to it. It’s so much fun I’m taking my helmet and driving different vehicles.”

“Driving in Sweden driving rally cars and IndyCar has been a blast to drive. Been in the IMSA series, I’ve certainly had my eyes on some type of NASCAR return but I just haven’t had the right opportunity come up yet.”
Johnson explained back in April he would only return to NASCAR if the Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval layout was used.
Jimmie Johnson now ranks 20th in the overall IndyCar standings.
